CU women's soccer announces 2014 schedule

Cumberland women’s soccer coach Gavin McKinney announced the club’s 2014 schedule on Thursday, which includes seven home matches and contests against five teams that finished the year ranked in the top 25.

The Bulldogs, who reached the NAIA Championship final site for the second straight year after winning 1-0 over Ottawa in the NAIA Championship Opening Round, will open the 2014 campaign at home against Tennessee Wesleyan on Aug. 27.

The club will then plays its next six matches on the road, including Sept. 5-6 at Mobile and William Carey, Sept. 9 at Campbellsville, Sept. 13 at Brenau, Sept. 15 at Union University and Sept. 19 versus Davenport in Columbia, Ky. Davenport (7th), William Carey (10th) and Brenau (17th) all finished last season ranked in the top 25 along with Cumberland, who was tied for eighth, and Mobile was in the Receiving Votes category.

The Bulldogs will play four straight at home to end the month of September and begin October, facing Shawnee State (Sept. 21), Martin Methodist (Sept. 23), St. Catharine (Sept. 27) and the University of the Cumberlands (Oct. 1). Martin Methodist was No. 13 in the final NAIA top 25 in 2013.

CU will hit the road for matches at Pikeville (Oct. 4) and Lindsey Wilson (Oct. 7), with the Blue Raiders finishing the 2013 campaign ranked No. 3 in the nation. Cumberland finishes the home schedule versus Georgetown College (Oct. 18) and Asbury (Oct. 23) and ends the regular season with a Nov. 2 match at Northwestern Ohio, who was also in the Receiving Votes category to end last season.

The Mid-South Conference Championships will take place Nov. 8, 13 and 14, and the NAIA Championship Opening Round will be held Nov. 22. The 31st annual NAIA Championships are set for Dec. 1-6 in Orange Beach, Fla.
