The awards continue to pile up for junior softball player Jessica Roper, who was tabbed second team All-American, the NAIA announced over the weekend.
The Bellflower, Calif., native had previously been named to the first team All-Mid-South Conference squad, the Mid-South Player of the Year and was awarded the conference’s Champions of Character winner.
Roper ranked in the top 50 in the nation in both hits (74) and batting average (.438) this season and added 47 RBIs, six home runs and 12 doubles on the season. She also threw out seven runners on 21 attempts behind the dish, as the squad’s catcher.
Saint Xavier hurler Nicole Nonnemacher was named NAIA Pitcher of the Year and Olivet Nazarene’s Hannah Gardner earned Player of the Year honors.
Cumberland finished the season with a program-record 38 victories en route to a second-place finish in the Mid-South Conference Championships, where Roper batted .313 with five hits, three RBIs and four runs scored.
