Boating fatality: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency worked one boating fatality over the recent Memorial Day weekend, which annually signals the start of a busy boating season.
A 67-year-old Knoxville man was launching his boat on Douglas Lake when the fatality occurred. The TWRA offered no details.
Across the state the TWRA's Boating and Law Enforcement Division reported 12 accidents, three of which resulted in injuries.
TWRA officers made 12 Boating Under the Influence (BUI) arrests, the same number as the previous Memorial Day weekend.
So far in 2014 there have been seven boating fatality accidents, 15 others that resulted in injuries, and 20 other property-damage incidents.
In recent years, as the state's waters have become more and more congested with recreational boats, the TWRA has cracked down on BUI and other safety-related infractions. That includes the regulation requiring one life jacket per passenger on every boat.

Remaining youth-fishing events: The TWRA held a number of youth fishing events around its June 5 Free Fishing Day in Tennessee, and other events are scheduled on through the summer.
The list of events is posted on the TWRA website (tnwildlife.org), and the list will be periodically updated as new events are added.
Encouraging more youngsters to get involved in outdoor pursuits has become a point of emphasis for the TWRA -- from youth fishing events to Young Sportsman deer and elk hunts.
Interscholastic trap team: Signups continue for an interscholastic trap-shooting team for Wilson County youngsters.
The team, named the Cedar City Straights, is open to youngsters age nine through high school, and will compete in state, regional and national competitions.
Training will be held at the Cedar City Gun Club.
