With the big July 4 holiday looming, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is preparing for its sixth annual Operation Dry Water crackdown on boating violations.
Scheduled for Friday through Sunday, the operation will concentrate on education and enforcement of boating under the influence laws.
It is intended to draw attention to the seriousness of boating under the influence of drugs or alcohol which can result in serious accidents and fatalities on the state’s increasingly crowded waters.
The TWRA is teaming with the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Association of Boat Administrators in the education/enforcement program.
TWRA boating officers will saturate high traffic areas on reservoirs across the state, including Percy Priest and Old Hickory lakes. They will be on the lookout for impaired boaters, and for other violations including mandatory life jackets aboard each boat and other regulations.
Boating under the influence carries similar penalties as driving under the influence in a highway motor vehicle.

Trap shoot: Jason Moore won a shoot-off with Dale Anthony to capture top honors in the Cedar City Gun Club’s weekly skeet trap shoot. Both had 49’s in regulation.
Lucas Green won Class B and Alyssa McDougle had the top Ladies score.
