COOPERTOWN – The Lebanon Nationals 12-under Dixie Youth majors all-stars defeated Greenbrier, 7-3, on Friday night in the opening round of district play.
Garrett Pope helped the Nationals take the lead for good in the sixth inning. With the score tied at three, Pope came to the plate and gave himself up with a sacrifice bunt, that scored John Ross Bryan. Miller also doubled in the sixth.
The Nationals took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. A double by Ryan Jackson scored Bryce Miller to start the inning.
The Nationals scored its other run in the fourth.
Miller held Greenbrier hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, no walks and struck out three. Kolby Gaines started the game on the mound. In two innings, Gaines struck out three, walked one and allowed no earned runs.
Chase Birdwell finished the game, allowing two runs in the final two innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered one hit.
The Nationals next face Springfield on Saturday at 1 p.m. Lebanon would play again at 8 p.m. with a win or 4 p.m. with a loss.
