Lebanon Americans hold off Summertown in state tourney

SWEETWATER – The Lebanon Americans held off a late rally by Summertown on Sunday night to win, 4-2, and continue through the loser’s bracket in a rain-delayed Dixie Youth O-Zone State Tournament game.

SWEETWATER – The Lebanon Americans held off a late rally by Summertown on Sunday night to win, 4-2, and continue through the loser’s bracket in a rain-delayed Dixie Youth O-Zone State Tournament game.
 
The Americans (11-3) next face Halls on Monday at 9 a.m. 
 
The two teams were stalemate without score until the bottom of the second inning when Carson Boles reached on a ground-ball error at second that scored Luke Bradshaw to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. 
 
Lebanon extended its lead to 2-0 in the third when Gaven Reasonover reached on a fielder’s choice grounder to the pitcher that allowed Spencer Sorce to cross the plate. 
 
The Americans’ lead improved to 4-0 in the fourth when Brady Chappell singled to right that scored Braden Reece and Bradshaw. 
 
Summertown managed a homer and a sacrifice to cut the lead in half in the fifth, but the effort wasn’t enough. 
 
Chappell went 1-for-2 with two RBIs at the plate for the Americans. Reece and Boles each added RBIs. Bond, Reece and Cory Jones each singled. 
 
Jeremiah Hastings and Reece split time on the mound, each going three innings. Reece recorded eight strikeouts while giving up one hit, two runs, two earned runs and two walks. Hastings had four strikeouts while giving up one hit, one walk and no runs or earned runs. 

Americans 10, Madisonville 1

The Lebanon Americans used a big day at the plate Sunday afternoon in beating Madisonville, 10-1, to continue an advance through the loser’s bracket in a rain-delayed Dixie Youth O-Zone State Tournament game.

The Americans (10-3) put up three runs in the first inning that started with an RBI double to center by Reece that allowed Reasonover to cross the plate. Reece then stole second before Bradshaw hit an RBI homer to give the Americans a 3-0 lead.

In the second, Mark McDearman grounded out to second that scored Chappell. A batter later, Sorce hit an RBI single to right that scored Evan Britt to extend Lebanon’s lead to 5-0.

Madisonville scored its lone run of the game in the third.

In the fourth, McDearman picked up his second RBI of the game on a single to left that scored Kameron Bond. Reasonover then reached on an error at first that allowed Chappell to cross the plate to give the Americans an 8-1 lead.

Reece hit a solo homer to kickstart the fifth for the Americans. Chappell picked up an RBI on a single to center that scored Carson Boles.

Reece, Chappell and Bradshaw each went 2-for-3 for the Americans. Reece, Bradshaw and McDearman each had two RBIs with Sorce and Chappell adding an RBI each.

Reasonover pitched five strikeouts while giving up no runs, earned runs or walks in three innings of work. McDearman had two strikeouts also giving up no runs, earned runs or walks. Evan Britt pitched two innings, striking out two while giving up one hit, one run, no earned runs and three walks.
