Local restaurants chipping in to help Lebanon Lions travel to Babe Ruth SE Regionals

First time state champions getting financial boost from public

Two Lebanon restaurants have pitched in to raise funds to send the Lebanon Lions 15-under Tennessee state Babe Ruth champions to the Southeast Regional in Virginia.

Chick-fil-A will hold a special night from 4-8 p.m. today with proceeds going to the team.

Painturo’s will donate half of the proceeds from Thursday’s entire business day to the team.

League president David McKinney said the Lions Club is trying to raise $13-14,000 to help send the team to Varina, Va., a suburb of Richmond, next week. He said many of the players’ families don’t have the money to make such a trip. There is no charge to play in the league during the season.

The president said $2,000 had already been raised as of late Tuesday.

“The public has been really, really good,” McKinney said.

This is believed to be the first state champion all-star team in the Lebanon league’s 59-year history [including the first year, 1955, in the Pony League before it switched to Babe Ruth the following season].
