Johnson wins state PGA Assistant Championship

FRANKLIN — Mt. Juliet’s Audie Johnson won the Assistant PGA Tennessee Section Championship on Tuesday at Temple Hills Country Club.

Johnson, former club pro at Lebanon Golf & Country Club, shot a final round of 70 for a two-day total of 138, good for a two-stroke victory over defending champion Kevin Snell of Eagleville.

He qualified for the 38th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship on Oct. 28-Nov. 2 at PGA Golf Club [Wanamaker Course] in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

“Every tournament you enter to try to win,” said Johnson, 52, now the assistant at McCabe Field Golf Course in Nashville. “I know qualifying is very important and it is nice to enter a tournament and play good.”

Lebanon’s Eric Angis finished in a tie for 10th place with a 149.
