Mt. Juliet’s boys and girls won their season-opening golf matches Tuesday at Lebanon Golf & Country Club.
The Golden Bears posted a 330 to Lebanon’s 341 and Gallatin’s 375. The Lady Bears carded a 180 to the Devilettes’ 191 and Lady Wave’s 222.
Freshman Sam Fogg’s 75 led the Golden Bears, followed by classmate Luke Raines’ 80. Senior Hunter Mehring had an 84 and junior J.C. Greenfield a 91. Freshman Jake Thomas’ 93 didn’t count toward the team score.
Freshman Caitlin Davis dropped in an 84 to lead the Lady Bears while sophomore Haylee Gold notched a 96. Freshman Hannah Bowman’s 115 didn’t count toward the team score.
Lebanon will travel to the Cookeville Country Club next Monday for the Cookeville Invitational at 9 a.m. Mt. Juliet will go to Country Hills in Hendersonville next Tuesday for a 1 p.m. tee time against Beech.
Central golfers win opener
MT. JULIET — Wilson Central opened its golf season Tuesday with a 331-351 win over visiting Portland in District 9-AAA action at Pine Creek.
Josh Wiseman shot an 80 for Central while Blain Turner and Garrett Horst each had 83s and Reece Gaddes an 85. Blake Cragwall’s 93 did not count toward the team score.
On the girls’ side, Central shot a 175. Portland only had one girls and did not qualify as a team.
Lise Malherbe led the Lady Wildcats with a 77, followed by Hannah Roberts’ 98. Makayla Ruckman’s 108 did not count toward the team score.
Central will play host to Lebanon at Pine Creek next Tuesday.
Johnson ties for third in state senior pro championships
FRANKLIN — Mt. Juliet’s Audie Johnson tied for third place in the Tennessee Senior Professional Championships at Old Natchez Country Club on Tuesday.
The former Lebanon Golf & Country Club pro, now the assistant pro at McCabe in Nashville, qualified for the Senior Pro National Championships at Wanamaker in Port St. Lucie, Fla., later this year by shooting a 74 Monday and 71 Tuesday for a 5-over 145, four strokes behind winner Richard Rebne, who repeated as state champion.
