MJCA opens with pounding of Providence

MURFREESBORO — Mt. Juliet Christian opened its middle school football season last Thursday with a 28-8 win over host Providence Christian.

The teams traded scores before the Saints scored 20 unanswered points.

Andrew Kittrell scored two touchdowns, including an 80-yard kickoff return, for the Saints while Austin Sloan and Mario Bell each had one. Mt. Juliet Christian went 2-for-4 on two-point conversion attempts.

Mt. Juliet Christian’s defense recorded five tackles for loss. Tyler Blais and Gage Grimes each intercepted a pass. Kittrell finished with four tackles, Bell two and Gavin Forsha, Stephen Curley, Dustin Steele and Will Dedman one each.

The Saints will hit the road again Thursday with a trip to Cannon County for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
