MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian scored with less than seven minutes to play and the defense held off visiting Holy Rosary in a 14-8 victory Thursday night at Edward Suey Field.
The teams traded first-quarter scores with Holy Rosary holding an 8-6 edge for much of the game until the Saints scored in the fourth.
Mt. Juliet Christian put together a goal-line stand two minutes before halftime.
“That was a huge fourth-down play for us,” coach Mike Kittrell said after his Saints moved to 3-0. “I’m very proud of how our guys stood strong. These kids really deserve it. They’ve worked very hard.”
Stephen Curley led the defense with two late-game sacks.
Andrew Kittrell led the offense with 150 of the Saints’ 207 yards on 15 carries.
Mt. Juliet Christian will celebrate homecoming Thursday when Zion Christian comes calling for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
