MEMPHIS (MCT) – The mother charged with the murder of her 7-week-old daughter pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Tuesday morning.
Andrea Walker, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child neglect or endangerment and aggravated child abuse. The body of an infant, that police identified as Walker's infant daughter, Aniston Walker, was found in a Millington ditch Sunday afternoon.
No bond has been set for Walker, but her attorney expects to ask for a hearing. Walker, who remains locked up at Jail East, is due back in court on Feb. 27.
Two of Walker's family members appeared in court Tuesday morning, but would not speak to a reporter.
Initially, Walker was charged with aggravated felony child abuse and aggravated child neglect or endangerment after the child's father reported her missing Jan. 9. Walker went free on a $250,000 bond, but was re-arrested Monday after police determined that the body found a day earlier was that of Aniston.
Walker, who works for the Internal Revenue Service, did not report her daughter missing but instead called her mother and, according to an affidavit released late Monday. Police described Walker as uncooperative in the investigation.
The affidavit also said that police determined that the body was that of Aniston in part because of the clothes she was described as wearing when she disappeared.
