First Freedom Bank recently selected its annual employee award winners. Three employees, Maliea Oakley, Christy Doyle and Shellie Birnel, received awards for excellence in their respective fields.
Oakley, senior vice president, director of human resources and facilities manager, received the Community Champion Award for representing the bank within the community. Oakley has been with the bank since its inception. Bank management selected Oakley for this special recognition for her involvement in community events and activities.
A Wilson County native, Oakley is a graduate of Leadership Wilson and was a member of the group that started the annual fundraiser for Empower Me Day Camp known as Swinefest.
She has been involved in several leadership roles at her church, serving on the budget and finance and properties committees, along with teaching youth. She has been a co‐chair for the Wilson County Relay for Life for many years, working with team captains each year and organizing events to raise money for Relay.
For the past three years, she has been a part of the group to organize the annual Every Women’s Expo, along with The Lebanon Democrat. She is also currently on the board for the Wilson County‐the Place to Be group, which promotes all areas of Wilson County.
Bank employees and management named Doyle, personal banker at the Lebanon office, winner of the Red Carpet Service Award in recognition of her excellent customer service. Doyle has 19 years of banking experience and has been with First Freedom Bank since inception. She values the relationships she builds with her customers and has a strong, detailed work ethic. Doyle is always willing to assist her customers and her co‐workers with whatever they need.
Birnel, deposit operations clerk, was awarded the Internal Service Award by bank employees and management. Birnel has 25 years of banking experience and has been with First Freedom Bank for four years. She is always willing to assist the bank’s employees with any issue that might arise and offers guidance and direction. She is committed to her job and strives to provide help when needed. Her co-workers feel she is a team player and sets a good example for other employees, according to bank representatives.
