Education Commission vice chair Paul Abercrombie and chairperson Annette Stafford talk during a discussion about whether the five-person Wilson County school board should be expanded.

Expanding the five-member Wilson County Board of Education was the topic Monday at the Wilson County Commission's Education Committee.

Commissioner Annette Stafford first broached the issue of increasing the number of members on the county school board at the committee's prior meeting.

She said Monday's meeting was an attempt to continue the conversation after she had heard from numerous parents concerned all areas of the county are not adequately represented on the board. She also said several surrounding counties have larger school boards to serve much smaller populations.
