Paramedics rushed a young child by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Friday morning following a head-on collision in Lebanon.

The wreck happened at 8 a.m. on Highway 70/Sparta Pike at Greenwood Road.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesperson Jennifer Donnals, a 2001 Taurus driven by Shelley Burton of Milton, Tenn., was headed north on Highway 70 when it crossed the center line, hit a 2008 Honda Pilot head-on and rolled down an embankment.

Donnals and a toddler riding with Burton were both flown by LifeFlight helicopter to the hospital.

The Honda Pilot’s driver, Susan Eskew of Lebanon, was taken to University Medical Center by ambulance.

Donnals said the youth was in a child restraint at the time of the crash.

Authorities did not release the child’s age or the victims’ medical statuses.

The investigation remained open Friday afternoon.
