Wilson 4th in turkey tally: Wilson County ranks fourth in the state in wild turkeys tagged so far this season. As of last week, 475 gobblers had been bagged in the county.
Maury County leads with 898, followed by Green (618) and Sumner (544).
The TWRA’s turkey tally last week stood a t 22,441, down from the 26,441 that had been tagged at that point last season.
The season runs through May 12.
Trap team debuts: The Cedar City Straights, a new trap-shooting team comprised of Wilson County youngsters that compete in interscholastic events, made its debut last week in Crossville.
Shooting at the Fairfield Glade Gun Club, Timothy Whitlock won Alternate Intermediate with a 91 and Alex Hart won Alternate JV with an 85.
The team is coached by Ben Schade. For information about the team or other area shooting events contact Schade at the Cedar City Gun Club.
Trap shoot: Danny Shaw shot a near-perfect 49 to win top honors in the Cedar City Gun Club’s weekly trap shoot.
Ray Hutcheson won the Veterans competition with a 48, Matthew Swift was top Junior with a 46 and Timothy Whitlock top Sub-Junior with a 42.
Fishing suggestions: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is soliciting suggestions from the state’s anglers about fishing rules and regulations.
Those suggestions and proposals will be taken into consideration when the Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission sets the 2014 fishing regulations.

Commission meets: The Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission will meet this weekend at Paris State Park to preview recommendations for the 2013-14 hunting seasons.
A report also will be made concerning the increase in black bears in the state, and particularly on the Cumberland Plateau.
