LIVINGSTON — Lebanon's 15-year-old Lion all-stars advanced to the Babe Ruth League district winner's bracket final with a 15-5 run-rule victory over Sparta on Friday night.
Sparta led 3-0 through three innings before the Lions unleashed their offense in the fourth and fifth frames, finishing with 10 hits.
Daniel Dillard and Reese Fudge both doubled and singled for Lebanon. Tyler Higdon doubled while Chase Andrews, Andy Empy, Jakeese Turner, John Olin and Austin Graves singled.
Turner pitched the first three innings before Graves tossed the final two.
Lebanon will return today for a 2 p.m. winner's final against the victor of Friday's late game between Cookeville and Fentress County.
At Sparta, the Lebanon 13s remained alive with a 23-3 rout of Fentress County, putting the Lions one win from the state tournament.
A.J Fletcher went 4-for-5, Trevor Eidson 3-for-5 and Conner Patrick 2-for-3 for Lebanon.
Fletcher was the winning pitcher, working the first three innings. Reliever Jenson White struck out five of the six batters he faced in the five-inning contest.
Lebanon fell into the loser's bracket with an 8-1 loss to Cookeville on Thursday.
But the Lions will return today for a 10 a.m. matchup with host Sparta with the winner catching Cookeville in the noon final. Both finalists will advance to the state at Johnson City, manager Dennis White said.
At Cookeville, it was a quick two-and-out for the Lebanon 14s who were eliminated by Warren County 8-2 Friday night.
Warren County scored four runs on just one hit in the first inning and never looked back.
Lebanon dropped into the loser's bracket with a 9-0 setback to the host team late Thursday.
Cookeville led 1-0 through four innings before scoring six times in the fifth and getting the final two tallies on a sixth-inning home run.
Americans rally past Nationals 9-8 in Dixie district final, both bound for state
ASHLAND CITY — The Lebanon American League scored five times in the top of the fifth inning to win a wild Dixie Youth district final 9-8 over their Rotary counterpart National League late Thursday night.
Both teams had already clinched berths in the O-zone state tournament in Dyersburg which will begin July 18.
The Americans jumped to a 4-1 lead in the top of the second inning. The Nationals scored in each of the first four frames to lead 8-4 going into the fifth.
Carson Boles drove in two American runs. Levi Sampson doubled while Trevor Sanders singled twice.
Ethan Chambers doubled and singled for the Nationals while Riley Hines and Matthew Winfree each singled twice.
Gold Kiwanis lose in Little League district final
HARTSVILLE — The Lebanon Gold Kiwanis run-ruled Smith County 13-3 before losing the Little League district final to Gallatin 12-1 Thursday night.
Mason Everett drove in six runs on a 3-for-3 night against Smith County. Jacob Belcher had five RBI on two hits, including a home run over the center-field fence.
John Tomlinson struck out four over the final two hitless innings. He, Jack Martin, Tyler Wiggins and Brock Gann each garnered a hit.
Wiggins and McKane Everett had Lebanon's only hits against Gallatin.
