Eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 were closed Tuesday evening after a tractor-trailer lost a load of steel, according to Lebanon police.
Several vehicles were damaged in the accident that happened just after 6 p.m. at the 232 mile marker near the State Route 840 intersection. Traffic was diverted to State Route 109 at Exit 232A.
Officers said Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Tennessee Department of Transportation officials arrived at the scene to assist Lebanon police to get the wreck cleared.
At just after 7 p.m., Lebanon police reported the eastbound lanes were re-opened to traffic. Three vehicles were damaged in the accident. Officers said the steel was moved to the roadside and the transport company would arrange to remove it.
