Mt. Juliet police closed Lebanon Road near the Little League baseball fields Tuesday night following a three-vehicle collision with critical injuries.

Police said three vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on Lebanon Road at York Road just before 9 p.m.

Police said a 2002 Chevrolet pickup travelling eastbound on Lebanon Road lost control and hit a 2013 Ford Explorer travelling westbound head on. A 2006 Mazda M3 rear-ended the Explorer after the initial impact.

According to police, the driver of the pickup was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter. The driver and a passenger in the Explorer were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by ambulance. All three victims were listed in critical condition, police said. Paramedics treated the driver of the Mazda at the scene, and that person was released.

Police said an accident reconstructionist was called to the scene to investigate what happened.

Lebanon Road was re-opened to traffic just after 11 p.m.
