The National Weather Service issued a special weather advisory for much of Middle Tennessee, including Wilson County, warning of high temperatures for the rest of this week.

Forecasters predicted heat index values could rise into the mid-90s and near 100 degrees for the rest of this week and through the weekend.

Areas near the Tennessee River can expect the highest heat indexes, which could reach or exceed 100 degrees, while areas farther east could reach the mid-90s.

Officials warn residents to take the necessary precautions against heat exhaustion and heat stroke and to not leave children or animals unattended in vehicles.
