Wilson County Family Court Judge John T. Gwin announced his intention to run for re-election to the position he has held since the court was first formed.

Also known as Division III of the general sessions court, Gwin first won election to the position in 2008.

“It has been a special privilege to serve the citizens of Wilson County,” said Gwin, “and I pledge to continue to dedicate my full time and energy to the job.”

Gwin maintained a private law practice for more than 30 years, with primary emphasis on family law matters. During that time, he was also the city judge for Mt. Juliet from 1993 through 2008.  He is past president of the 15th Judicial District Bar Association; past president of the Tennessee Municipal Judges Association; and served on the Tennessee Judicial Council. He is a current member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Family Law Division.

Gwin was on active duty military service from 1968-72, and earned his doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1976.

Married to wife Patricia for more than 41 years, Gwin’s children attended Wilson County public schools, and both hold master’s degrees in the field of health care.

In the arena of community service, he has served as president or board chair for Wilson County CASA and the Mt. Juliet Senior Center. He has past service on the board of Prospect, Inc., the board of the Mt. Juliet-West Wilson Chamber of Commerce and was the first secretary and treasurer for the Wilson County Sports Authority. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary, International.

“Successful service as family court judge requires considerable training, experience and patience,” Gwin said. “I am respectfully asking the citizens of Wilson County to allow me to continue to serve in this vitally important position.”
