After Wilson County Emergency Management Agency Director John Jewell’s resignation Aug. 2, Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto has worked to find his replacement.
Hutto said as of Wednesday he was still in the process of hiring Jewell’s successor.
“I should be through with everything by the end of the week,” Hutto said. “I’ve been having conversations and making sure things are in place, but I hope to be done with everything by Friday.”
Jewell’s resignation came Aug. 2 following a disciplinary committee review of his involvement in a wreck in June.
“After a review of my recent accident near Watertown on June 26 by the disciplinary committee, meetings with Mayor Randall Hutto and political pressures, I have chosen to resign,” Jewell said in his resignation letter. “The past five and a half years I have had the pleasure of being at the agency have been challenging, exciting and rewarding.”
Jewell said he would stay with WEMA for about 30 more days.
“It’s up to [Hutto] if I will serve any longer than [30 days],” Jewell said Aug. 2. “I will be a part of the day-to-day operations until I leave.”
