McPherson Cleaners is again bringing its Twinkle Stars program to Lebanon to ensure children and seniors have something under the tree Christmas morning.

In its fifth year, Twinkle Stars allows patrons to adopt a star or make a donation at McPherson Cleaners at 109 Market St. in Lebanon. Donations and any unwrapped presents should be taken to the cleaners by Dec. 12. Twinkle Stars hopes to provide Christmas for 175 families this year.

“We will be accepting donations of canned foods, toys of all kinds, monetary and gift cards,” said Diane Harris with McPherson Cleaners. “The gift cards will to help some of the elderly with their needs. We will have some of the children’s needs on our Christmas tree at McPherson Cleaners.”

According to Harris, the dry cleaners will give a 10-percent discount off a dry cleaning order in exchange for a toy, gift card or donation to help provide for those in need this year.

“New City Café will be catering a hot Christmas dinner for us to be able to feed a group of people and provide Christmas with Santa and his Elf for the children,” Harris said. "Sometimes we get kids whose names aren't picked, so we take the money that's donated and go shopping for them.”

The majority of the names come from a local agency. Rarely, they get a name from another source.

"We might have someone come in, and they know someone who needs help, but that's only happened twice," she said,

She said anyone who wants to help just has to visit the cleaners and pick a star.

"We have a Christmas tree and a board with stars," Harris said. "The wish lists are on the back of the stars."

At the party, no one is left out, and they even take care to make sure each child is set for Christmas morning.

"Every kid gets a present at the party, and the rest are in a bag," Harris said. "We give the bag to the parents for Christmas morning."
