Organizers of the Fareless Friday event held Black Friday on Nov. 29 by the Regional Transportation Authority are calling it a success.
The Music City Star regional train set a new weekday record of more than 1,700 passengers.
“This was a chance for us to have people try public transportation,” said RTA chief executive Paul Ballard. “All they had to do was get on a bus or the train and enjoy the ride.”
The Fareless Friday promotion on Black Friday was not only an opportunity for people who do not ride transit to try it, but it was also a way for the transit systems to demonstrate their appreciation to the customers who already utilize their services.
The RTA offers nine express bus routes and the Music City Star regional train.
