Several housekeeping items and a proposed differentiated pay plan are on the table for discussion at the Wilson County Board of Education meeting Friday.
Board Chairman Don Weathers said many of the items are "preparatory work for next school year."
"We've got the code of conduct, which we review every year for changes. There is also the course catalog and attendance policies, something we have to do each year so parents have an expectation of what to expect next school year."
The item Weathers sees as having the potential for the most discussion is a proposal on differentiated pay plans.
"I think that one will have quite a bit of discussion. It's certainly an emotional topic. It increases the entry level salaries of new teachers and eliminates the step system that has been in place for years and replaces it with a merit-based system," said Weathers. "Merit-based systems are based on your achievements with your students.
"The board members will have to listen to the presentation from the interim director and will make a decision whether to take action or defer that for further discussion."
Other items on the agenda include a couple of budget amendments and review of some board policies.
The board will meet Friday at 3 p.m. at the Central Office.
