Easily the county’s most fun, wacky and entertaining evening of the year, the Imagination Dinner is gearing up to take place next month.
Now in its ninth year, the annual event attracts a variety of attendees from county notables and elected officials to those who like to have a good time and make a difference.
The Imagination Dinner is a major fundraiser to help Wilson Books from Birth, with all proceeds going to benefit the organization, which is Wilson County’s branch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the pre-kindergarten literacy service that provides one hard-back, age appropriate book each month to children in Wilson County from birth to age 5 at no cost to the family.
Any child from birth to 5 years old is eligible for the program. This is the group's major fundraiser of the year to help Wilson County children learn the joys of reading.
Each table at the event seats eight people and is $250. Individual tickets are also available.
The dinner follows a “wacky waiter” format and groups or businesses buy and sponsor tables for the evening. After sponsoring a table the group then selects a “wacky waiter” and theme for the table to be decorated and for participants to dress in. The waiter waits on the table and collects "tips" for silverware, napkins or anything else requested. Those tips add to the fundraising total for the evening. If a group cannot select a waiter, one will be chosen for them.
Previous years have seen themes such as The Wizard of Oz, Scooby Doo, Grand Ole Opry stars, Circus and Duck Dynasty, among others.
Live and silent auctions, as well as door prizes, will also be available throughout the evening.
The Imagination Dinner is a major fundraiser of the year for Wilson Books from Birth. The cost to supply books for children is $30 per year per child served. Of that cost, $15 comes from the Governor's Foundation and the other $15 is raised by the county organizations.
The ninth annual Imagination Dinner is planned for April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center East-West Building.
