Friends of Vets, Cops and Firefighters played host to Vets Day Out on April 11 at the Veterans’ Building at the Wilson County Fairgrounds.

The luncheon was sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1004 in Lebanon and was catered by Tom’s Blue Moon Barbecue. About 20 veterans from the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro attended along with staff and student nurses and other local veterans.

As part of the event, the group celebrated the upcoming birthday of World War II veteran Odel Braswell who will turn 96 on May 3.  The Lebanon Walmart provided the birthday cake, and Jay and Gloria provided music.

State Rep. Mark Pody presented Braswell with a certificate and American flag to honor the occasion. Lebanon Mayor Philip Craighead and Chancellor C.K. Smith were guests, along with four World War II veterans.

The luncheon is held on a monthly basis to recognize and thank the veterans for their service. Sponsors for the event are welcome. Contact coordinator Ken Kackley at hkenkjr@aol.com for more information.
