Bulldogs edged by Graceland in NAIA nat'ls

MOBILE, Ala. — Graceland [Iowa] edged Cumberland 5-4 Monday morning in the first match of the NAIA National Championships.
The No. 15 Yellow Jackets won 2 of 3 doubles matches before the teams split the six singles matches.
Doubles winners for Graceland were Brette Waite and Carlos Cordova over Roman Shkurupiy and Edgar Galea 8-3 and Maurice Weggelaar and Filipe Valle Costa over Bernardo Kenup and Andrew Williams 8-5.
Singles winners for the Jackets were Waite over Mike Basler 6-4, 6-2; Mario Paz over Shkurupiy 7-6, 6-1 and Thomas Brodbeck over Galea 6-4, 7-6 as Graceland advanced with a 15-6 record.
Winners for the No. 17 Bulldogs were Basler and Felipe Novello over Brodbeck and Paz 8-4, Novello over Cordova 7-5, 6-2; Mirhossini over Valle Costa 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Williams over Weggelaar 6-3, 6-4 as Cumberland concluded an 18-7 season.
