Bullsogs pound Lindsey Wilson
Cumberland University's Bulldogs pounded visiting Lindsey Wilson 13-3 Sunday at Woody Hunt Stadium/Ernest L. Stockton Field, completing a 4-0 weekend.
Kevin Bufford tossed five innings for the Bulldogs to earn the victory.
Lindsey Wilson took an early lead on an three RBI triple by Bryan Gitlewski in the first inning. The Bulldogs had the answerin the second adding six runs of their own. Jeremy Wilson and Jose Diaz each drew walks around a single by Austin Morgan and Kyle West drove in two runs with a double to center field. James Lilley followed with a single to drive in two more.Luis Martinez added another double for the final runs of the inning.
The runs kept coming for Cumberland as they added two in the third, three in the sixth including a home run by Courtney Probst and two in the seventh to seal the victory.
Cumberland swept Crichton College in Memphis on Friday and Saturday. In game one of the Saturday doubleheader, Zach Whitmer went six innings allowing eight hits to move to 4-4 on the season. Cumberland took the lead in the sixth inning on a two-run blast from Jason Bush. Eric Mull added another longball for the Bulldogs in the seventh and Bush drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.
In the afternoon game, Cumberland relied on a four run effort in the final inning to squeeze a 5-4 victory. Probst knocked a single and advanced to second after Lilley drew a walk. Bush had a solid RBI single. Martinez added another run with a sac fly to right field.
Robert Clayton tossed a complete game Friday to improve to 9-1 as the Bulldogs defeated Crichton 13-3.
