Carr hits walk-off HR in first CU at-bat

It didn't take long for Courtney Carr to have an impact on the college softball level.
The freshman from Friendship Christian hit a pinch-hit, walk-off home run in her first college at bat Friday, lifting Cumberland to a 3-2 win over visiting Mountain State in the first game of a double header at Junior Hawkins Field.
Cumberland followed with a 13-2 thumping of the Lady Cougars.
Carr's blast made a winner of Jessica Moon, who pitched a two-hitter with no walks and two strikeouts.
Cumberland built a 2-0 lead with single scores in the first two innings. Jamie Smith doubled and scored on Kassie Taylor's single in the first. Former Wilson Central standout Morgan Wills homered to lead off the second.
Mountain State took advantage of two errors to score twice on a pair of hits in the top of the sixth to tie the score.
Smith drove in four runs on three hits, including a pair of homers, from her leadoff spot in the nightcap. She also scored four times. She hit a three-run homer in Cumberland's five-run second inning. Carr followed with an RBI single and Wills, who singled home a run in the first, an RBI double.
Taylor hit a three-run double in the Lady Bulldogs' five-run third inning. Former Mt. Juliet star Amy Eden followed with an RBI double and Micki Geyman a run-scoring single.
Smith homered in the sixth.
Alli Donnelly pitched the first three innings for the win, scattering six hits while striking out two. Geyman worked the final two frames, surrendering a pair of hits with two punchouts. Neither pitcher walked a batter.
