Central, MJ girls win big
Wilson Central and Mt. Juliet may be destined to clash with the District 9-AAA lead on the line next month.
In the meantime, the neighboring powerhouses are whipping up on the rest of the district.
Central used a big second quarter to beat Beech 75-48 in Gladeville while Mt. Juliet went to Hendersonville and enjoyed a spectacular third period to whip the Lady Commandos 82-35 as both moved to 2-0 in the league.
Friendship Christian's boys, most of whom didn't even pick up a basketball until less than a week ago following their run to the state football finals, won for the second time in a week, jumping to a big lead and winning at Clay County in a 54-45 final which wasn't that close.
On the other side, Wilson Central's boys trimmed a Beech lead down to a final 67-54 after trailing by 22 entering the fourth quarter.
Friendship's girls fell behind Clay County in the second quarter and, after trailing by as much as 24 points, rallied to make the final 55-42 score look respectable.
Lebanon endured a frustrating night in Murfreesboro against Oakland.
In a battle of two resurgent teams, the Devilettes trailed big before their rally ran out of time in a 57-51 loss.
The Blue Devils had no such comeback against a powerhouse Patriot team which overpowered Lebanon 70-35.
