Craig leads 2nd-qtr. Golden Bear rampage

MT. JULIET — Demond Craig scored 12 of his game high 16 points in the second quarter to spark a 49-30 victory for the Golden Bears Friday over the Gallatin Green Wave at Tommy Martin Gym/The Cave.
After the first quarter ended with the two teams deadlocked at 10, Craig fired in a dozen to help give the Bears a 10-point halftime lead, 28-18.
"This was as good a game as we've played all year," Mt. Juliet coach Troy Allen said after his Golden Bears ended their regular season 16-9 overall and 7-5 in District 9-AAA.
Battling on the boards was a focus for the Bears, who saw the district-leading Green Wave outrebound them by10 in the previous meeting. As a result, the gap was increased to 38-24 at the close of the third period.
"We came ready to play," Allen said. "And we're playing good at the right time."
Antwaun Majors knocked down 12 points for the Bears. Berek Lunn tossed in seven, Jonta Bowman five, Cory Payne and Robert Hill three apiece, Ryan Overstreet two and Andy Hahn a free throw.
Mt. Juliet faces Hendersonville next Friday at home in the district tournament.
