Cumberland catapults past Mid-Continent for win in the fifth
The Bulldogs of Cumberland used a seven-run fifth inning to catapult to an 11-3 victory Saturday over Mid Continent at Woody Hunt Stadium/Ernest L. Stockton Field.
Preston Potter opened the fifth drawing a lead-off walk and advancing to second on a passed ball from the pitcher. James Liiley followed with a second walk. Courtney Probst reached first on a bunt allowing Potter to score.
Then, Eric Mull belted a three-run homer over the left center field wall to clear the bases and give Cumberland a four run lead, 6-2. Clint Alexander, added a single and Lilley a double to drive in three more runs.
Mid Continent posted one run each in the second, fourth and eighth innings.
Aaron Tant tossed six innings to secure his fourth win of the year, striking out eight and allowing just three hits.
Chuck Belote added a hit and RBI for the Bulldogs. James Parker knocked a hit and drove in one and Kyle West, Jeremy Wilson and Austin Morgan all had a hit.
Cumberland moved to 29-16 on the season and 14-6 in TranSouth Conference play with the victory.
