Cumberland climbs from 16-point hole to cage Cougars

MAYFIELD, Ky. — Cumberland's men climbed out of a big halftime deficit Thursday to race past Mid-Continent 72-66.
The Bulldogs shot 24 percent in the first half to trail 38-22. Shooting on the same basket in the second half, the Cougars connected on just 29 percent over the final 20 minutes while Cumberland hit just under 46 percent to climb to 10-7 for the season and 2-4 in the TranSouth Conference.
Chase Burnett fired in five three-pointers on his way to 21 points for Cumberland while Aurimas Silys tossed in 12. Kevin Bufford notched nine points and 12 rebounds while Maurice Johnson and Thomas Douglas each scored seven, Joseph Northington five, Jason Langelier and Torrez Hampton four apiece, Brandon Oldham two and Steven Jamison a free throw.
Brian Hewitt knocked down 19 points and TiRon Peoples 15 as each threw in three 3-pointers for Mid-Continent. Sinesa Korkut claimed 14 rebounds as the Cougars outrebounded Cumberland 40-38.
The Bulldogs will bus to Pulaski today for a 4 p.m. game at Martin Methodist. The women will tip off at 2 p.m.
