'Dawgs follow Rhodes to victory

Cumberland's men built a double-digit first-half lead Saturday afternoon before holding off visiting Freed-Hardeman 73-30 at the Dallas Floyd Center.
The Bulldogs built a 32-21 halftime lead before surviving the Lions' scare to improve to 12-10 for the season and 4-7 in the TranSouth Conference.
Desmond Rhodes fired in four three-pointers on his way to 25 points, secured seven rebounds, passed for three assists and swiped three steals for Cumberland. Brandon Oldham tossed in 12 points while Torrez Hampton had 10.
Chase Burnett notched nine points while Kevin Bufford added eight with eight rebounds. Steven Jamison scored six, Thomas Douglas two and Joseph Northington a free throw.
Kristoffer Smith sank four triples as he led all scores with 26 points for the Lions. Brent McPherson also fired in four threes en route to 12 while Shun Trevillian threw in three on his way to 11 as Freed fell to 6-17, 4-7.
Cumberland will return to the TranSouth road Thursday when the Bulldogs bus to Jackson to take on Lambuth at 8 p.m.
