DCA hands Friendship boys season's first defeat

DONELSON — Donelson Christian handed Friendship Christian's boys their first loss of the season Thursday 4-3 while the Lady Commanders lost for the second straight outing 6-1.
The Wildcats swept the two doubles matches to drop Friendship to 7-1 for the season. Michael Yokosuk and Bryan Jakes defeated Dillon Bane and Andrew Neely 8-3 while Bradley Meador and Todd Underwood outscored Jordan Huddleston and Hunter Harwell 9-8.
Singles winners for the Wildcats were Yokosuk over Bane 6-3, 6-3 and Meador over Huddleston 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Winners for the Commanders were Neely over Jakes 6-3, 6-4; Harwell over Underwood 6-3, 6-1 and Jonathan Huddleston over Austin Black 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Singles winners for the Lady Wildcats were Caroline Fry over Paige Watson 6-0, 6-1; Hannah Johnson over Amanda Ferrell 6-0, 6-1; Chelsea Harrison over Ashley Ayub 6-4, 6-1; Gabbie Starace over Katie Mitchell 6-3, 6-2 and Allie Owen over Laura Wilson 6-1, 6-1.
DCA's girls swept the doubles with Fry and Rachel Mullins beating Watson and Christen Tressler 8-2, Johnson and Harrison handling Ferrell and Ayub 8-2 and Owen and Starace knocking off Mitchell and Hannah Neal 8-3.
The Lady Commanders' lone winner was Tressler over Mullins 6-3, 6-3 as Friendship, which suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday to Lebanon, fell to 7-1.
Friendship will travel to Nashboro Village on Monday for a 3:30 p.m. match against Ezell-Harding.
Mt. Juliet twice beats LaVergne
LAVERGNE — Mt. Juliet swept LaVergne 9-0 [girls] and 7-2 [boys] Thursday.
Singles winners for the Lady Bears were Molly McCabe over Cici McCormick 8-4, Jessica Porter over Ashlie Hall 8-2, Kelsey Copeland over Tabitha Gribbens 8-0, Lindsey Gaither over Stephanie Razo 8-0 and Brooke Jefcoat and Caroline Sugg by forfeit.
Doubles winners were Porter and Copeland over McCormick and Hall 8-4, McCabe and Jefcoat over Gribbens and Razo 8-2 and Gaither and Sugg by default.
LaVergne's boys won the first two singles matches before the Golden Bears won out.
Singles winners for the Bears were Andy Mihalik over Justin Thurman 8-4, Matt Freda over Justin Thurman 8-4, Kenny Smith over Jacob Morphis 8-2 and Jeffrey Gurch over Miguel Ortiz 8-3.
Doubles winners were Freda and Jess Dillard over Billy Crawley and Jarrod Crawley 8-4, Mihalik and Williams over Thurman and Zach Boulanger 8-3 and Smith and Gurch over Morphis and Falconberry 8-1.
Winners for LaVergne were Jarrod Crawley over Dillard 8-6 and Boulanger over Williams 8-5.
Mt. Juliet will host Smyrna at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Charlie Daniels Park.
