Apr 07, 2007 12:00 am
Lebanon's girls handed Friendship Christian its first loss of the season Wednesday 7-0 while the undefeated Commanders beat the Blue Devils 6-1 at Cumberland.
The Devilettes won despite No. 1 singles player Chelsea Fyke being limited to doubles due to illness. Friendship's boys also overcame an absence as No. 2 Andrew Neely sat out the match with an injury.
Fyke's sister, Courtney, moved up to No. 1 and outlasted Christen Tressler 9-8 [8-6 in the tiebreaker]. Other Devilette singles winners were Sarah Morgan over Amanda Ferrell 8-3, Kacey Conatser over Ashley Ayub 8-4, Samantha McElfresh over Katie Mitchell 9-7 and Christy Booher over Hannah Neal 8-4.
Doubles winners were the Fyke sisters over Tressler and Mitchell 8-3 and Morgan and Conatser over Ferrell and Ayub 8-2 as the Devilettes improved to 4-2.
Singles winners for the Commanders were Dillon Bane over John Do 8-4, Jordan Huddleston over Ben Fennell 8-5, Hunter Harwell over Andrew Puryear 8-5 and Jonathan Huddleston over Peter Misaiphon 8-1.
Doubles winners were Bane and Harwell over Do and Fennell 8-2 and the Huddleston brothers over Puryear and Patrick Jones 8-2.
Jones beat Michael Smith 8-1 for the Blue Devils' only win as they dropped to 2-4.
Lebanon's boys lost to defending state champion Siegel 7-0 Tuesday at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro while the girls were edged 4-3. Both LHS teams slipped to 1-2 in District 7-AAA.
Both teams will return to the court at 3:30 p.m. today. Lebanon will host district rival Warren County at Cumberland while Friendship goes to Donelson Christian.
