Devilettes lose in 7-AAA semifinal
MURFREESBORO — Lebanon's Devilettes ran into a brick wall Saturday in the semifinals of the District 7-AAA tournament, going down 77-23 to the hosting Lady Warriors of Riverdale.
Lebanon suffered two key losses in the contest. Starter Jasmin Brooks went down hard after attempting a lay-up just minutes into the first quarter and left the game.
"Jasmin tore her ACL," Devilette coach Darian Brown said after the game.
The Devilettes will also be without senior Crystal Howse, who was ejected from the contest with under three minutes to go in the third period after receiving a technical foul. She will be sidelined for Lebanon's upcoming contest Monday versus Siegel, who lost to Cookeville 45-25 Saturday, in the consolation game.
"These girls have been our leading scorers all year," Brown said. "Losing them means losing 40-50 percent of our offense."
Icelyn Elie scored a jump shot at 7:07 of the first period to tie the game a 2 before Riverdale fired in 17 unanswered points. The first period ended showing Riverdale ahead 19-4.
By halftime the deficit was 41-9. Lebanon finally achieved double digits on a bucket from London Elie at 6:22 of the third.
Anne Marie Lanning led the charge for the Lady Warriors with 18 points. Clarke Davis put in 13 points, Alex Bivens added 12 and Jessica Whitens and Shellina Burgess each had 11.
For Lebanon, Howse had six points, London Elie and Acquaruis Huddleston added five apiece, Icelyn Elie four, Ebony Marshall two and Dee Kendall a free throw.
Lebanon takes on Siegel at 6 p.m. Monday at Riverdale.
