Doubles prove the difference for FCS girls
GALLATIN — Friendship Christian's girls swept their doubles matches Tuesday to pick up a 6-3 win over Station Camp while the Commanders blanked the Bisons 9-0 at Vol State as both FCS teams remained undefeated.
With the girls tied 3-3 going into doubles, Friendship's Paige Watson and Christen Tressler topped Catlin Vest and Kayla Dorris 8-1, Amanda Ferrell and Ashley Ayub doubled up Ellyn Unger and Lindsey Butler 8-4 and Hannah Neal and Jenna Hazelwood trumped Kayla Buchanon and Hughes as the Lady Commanders collected their fourth win.
Singles winners for the Lady Commanders were Watson over Vest 8-2, Tressler over Dorris 8-2 and Ferrell over Blake 9-8.
Station Camp winners were Unger over Ayub 8-5, Butler over Katie Mitchell 8-6 and Buchanon over Laura Wilson 8-2.
Singles winners for Friendship's boys were Dillon Bane over Jonathan Gwaltney 8-0, Andrew Neely over Steven Conner 8-0, Jordan Huddleston over Greg Thorpe 8-4, Hunter Harwell over Michael Bruner 8-2, Jonathan Huddleston over Alex Dearmin 8-0 and Michael Smith over Ian Gray 8-2.
Doubles winners were Harwell and Smith over Conner and Bruner 8-2, Stephen Porter and Trey Farmer over Conner and Thorpe 8-4 and Ryan Hayward and Rohan Ayub over Dearmin and Gray 8-6.
Friendship will travel to White House at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
MJCA swings past White House
WHITE HOUSE — Mt. Juliet Christian breezed past White House 7-0 [boys] and 8-1 [girls] Tuesday.
Singles winners for the Saints were Josh McKenzie over Ethan McPherson 8-2, Andrew Ziady over Colby Swift 8-1, Caleb Wagler over Greg Hyn 8-2, Sam Anderson over Daytona Wallace 8-3 and Ben Brescka by default.
Doubles winners were McKenzie and Ziady over McPherson and Hyn 8-1 and Wagler and Brescka over Swift and Wallace 8-0.
Lady Saints singles winners were Crystal Harwell over Mikala Payne 8-1, Kate Walker over Kristen Burgett 8-0, Cindy Overstreet over Callie Leftwich 8-0, Chelsea Mobley over Sara Townsend 8-4, Hannah Jordan over Brittany Chapman 8-1 and Sara Beth Walker over Faith Patterson 8-6.
Doubles winners were Harwell and Overstreet over Payne and Burgett 8-1 and Mobley and Kate Walker over Townsend and Coulman 8-0.
Mansford and Fulton got White House's only win with an 8-5 decision over Erin Miller and Betsy Harris.
Mt. Juliet Christian will host Greenbrier at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Charlie Daniels Park.
