Friendship holds off Portland
Friendship Christian's girls held off visiting Portland 46-42 Monday night at the Sportsplex.
Following a first-quarter tie, the Lady Commanders built a 23-16 halftime lead and a 37-29 margin going into the fourth as Friendship pulled even for the season at 9-9.
"The girls held our composure much better," Lady Commander coach Deanna Teeter said. "Gabbie Lowe hit some crucial free throws at the end."
Center Katy Vaughan scored 17 points for Friendship while Jessi Couch added eight. Sara Hay hit two three-pointers as she, Carly Warmath and Lacey Farmer each finished with six. Lowe threw in three.
Sarah Smith scored 17 points from the post for Portland.
Friendship will host District 8-A rival Gordonsville at 6:30 p.m. Friday for homecoming.
