Friendship posts up to upset Gordonsville

GORDONSVILLE — Facing a Gordonsville program which has been near the top of District 8-A (and previously 6-A) for more than a decade, Friendship Christian came from behind in the fourth quarter to upset the Tigerettes 68-61 Thursday night.
The Lady Commanders overcame a first-quarter knee injury to Jody Leftwich by pounding the ball inside to Katy Vaughan, who tossed in 24 points, and Lindsey Farmer, who supplied 17, as Friendship improved to 3-0 in the district and 6-5 for the season.
"It was a group effort," said Friendship coach Deanna Teeter, whose Lady Commanders will travel to Eagleville on Saturday for a 6 p.m. tipoff. "I can't say enough positive things about the whole team. They worked hard as a team, gave me everything they had.
"We were able to get the ball inside and our posts put the ball in the hole. Defensively, we really stepped up."
Friendship led 8-7 following the first quarter before Gordonsville moved in front 30-26 by halftime and 40-39 through three periods as the Tigerettes slipped to 3-1 in the district.
Gabbie Lowe added eight points for Friendship while Carly Warmath scored seven, Jessi Couch five, freshman Lacey Farmer (adding extra minutes with Leftwich out) four, Leftwich two and Sara Hay a free throw.
Point guard Sylvia Thomas tossed in two three-pointers on her way to 17 for Gordonsville.
