The Stardust Drive-In Theater in Watertown will become the venue for a concert featuring country music star and American Idol finalist Bucky Covington in November.
The Music With A Purpose concert will benefit the Mt. Juliet Help Center and the Bridge Fellowship, both in Wilson County.
The Mt. Juliet Help Center provides emergency assistance and to help people achieve stability by offering a helping hand.
The Bridge Fellowship creates atmospheres that are fun, comfortable and draw people closer to God in outreach throughout Wilson County.
“Anytime we get to play in town, it’s a wonderful thing,” Covington said. “To be able to help out a wonderful cause, it’s a great thing.”
The concert will be Nov. 17 with gates opening at 10 a.m. and Covington taking the stage at noon.
Tickets are available for $15 each, and a VIP status may be added for $10 more at musicwithapurpose.com.
“We definitely like helping people out all we can,” Covington said.
Covington is no stranger to offering a helping hand to those in need. He’s a spokesperson and active supporter of Help The Good Guys, an organization that provides immediate financial support for injured firefighters and their families. Covington plays host to fundraisers from concerts to bowling parties, with the proceeds going immediately to injured firefighters.
His second album, Good Guys, was released Sept. 11 with a portion of the first week sales benefitting Help The Good Guys and the International Association of Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation. An exclusive version of the album was also made available to IAFF members and chapters to raise money for the foundation.
“We do all kinds of shows,” Covington said. “We do big shows where there are 30,000-50,000 people there, and we do acoustic shows where there are only a handful of people there. We just finished a hometown tour where we played a lot of small towns and small venues.”
He became the best-selling debut artist of the class of 2007, with the hit song, “A Different World.” A feature on his new album, he and Shooter Jennings team up in “Drinking Side of Country.”
“This will be an amazing show with one of the best talents and more importantly one of the best people in country music,” said Jeremy Hayes, president of Music With a Purpose. “Bucky truly cares about people in the community, and it is a true blessing to have Bucky be a part this Music With A Purpose concert.
“Music With A Purpose hopes that we can write checks of at least $5,000 to each group with the help of people attending the concert.”
