MT. JULIET - A Wilson County School bus was hit head-on by another vehicle Tuesday afternoon at Saunderville and Bay Roads.
Wilson County Schools Safety Director David Burton had no explanation for why the other driver didn't see the bus, which was stopped to let a student off.
"There were two students and the driver on the bus, and he was stopped to let a student off," Burton said. "He had his flashers on and his stop sign out when he saw the other vehicle come toward him head-on. He was able to get the student to safety before the impact."
Burton said the other vehicle was a small pick-up truck.
"It's a narrow road, and the bus was facing down hill," he said. "I can't imagine why he didn't see the bus."
The driver of the truck was the only one injured in the crash.
"He was taken to the hospital," Burton said. "I hope he's OK."
