Bad weather is thought to be the cause of an accident that claimed one life and left four others injured. The two-car crash happened Friday along Interstate 40 in Wilson County.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Timothy E. Gray, 44, of Portland, was driving westbound on I-40 at mile marker 228 near the Beckwith Road exit when he lost control of his vehicle in the rain. The Ford E2500 van Gray was driving crossed the median into oncoming traffic and struck a Honda Accord driven by Omar A. Hirsi, 25, of Nashville.

Both vehicles then left the road and ended in the tree line. Hirsi's vehicle struck a tree on the left side passenger area killing Yusuf Mohamud, 24, a passenger in the back seat of the Honda.

Hirsi, along with his three other passengers - Hassan A. Mahmood, Abdikarim F. Jama and Awila Aden, all of Nashville - suffered injuries in the crash. Gray was not injured.

Trooper William Bennett's report indicates there is no suspicion that either driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but tests were requested, which is standard procedure when a wreck involves a fatality.
