Letters soliciting services can be confusing

Insurance is usually a good thing and necessary to adequately protect home, car and health. These days, companies offer insurance for everything, including pet health insurance. But it varies from person to person just how much protection is needed or whether some salespeople may go to far, stalking the vunerable or elderly.

Patricia Lowe lives in the Lebanon's Sixth Ward, and she recently received a letter offering her insurance for her sewer line and in-home plumbing, insurance she never considered.

"They said the customer had to pay for it, and they wanted a credit card number and bill you for $8 a month or over $100 for a year," Lowe said. "I called the water department for the city."
