An early morning fire destroyed two vehicles and a carport Thursday at a home in Mt. Juliet.

Wilson Emergency Management Agency Director John Jewell said the homeowner heard "popping noises" coming from her detached carport at 3131 West Division St. and discovered her truck on fire around 1:30 a.m.

"When firefighters arrived at the scene, the truck was fully involved, and the flames had jumped to an SUV parked next to it," said Jewell.

The fire engulfed the carport before firefighters could extinguish the flames, Jewell said.

"The siding on the side of the house also melted," he said.

The resident couple escaped injury. The cause remains unknown.
