A Lebanon man remained in stable condition after his girlfriend stabbed him early Friday morning.

Police Chief Scott Bowen said the call came in at about 1 a.m. reporting a stabbing at 1694 A Classicview Drive. When officers arrived, they found the 43-year-old victim was stabbed in the abdomen with a filet knife.

The victim’s 55-year-old girlfriend told police her boyfriend attacked her, and she grabbed a knife she kept tucked under her mattress and stabbed him to get away, said Bowen.

Bowen also said the victim’s girlfriend had visible injuries to her throat, face and mouth consistent with her account of the events.

“There is a question of self defense with this,” said Bowen. “There is a possibility [the victim] could be charged.”

Police didn't identify anyone involved in the incident.

Paramedics took the victim to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment.

No charges were filed, but the investigation remained open Friday. Bowen said the case would be presented to district attorneys.
