Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce officials encourage everyone to bring a lawn chair to the square Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for Jammin’ with the General.
The event is the second in a series of three public events at the square this year with the intent to bring interest back to Lebanon’s historic downtown square. Jammin’ with the General is open to the public and will include food, live music and line dancing.
The musical performer Thursday will be Lebanon’s own Daryle Singletary. Singletary will begin playing at 6:30 p.m. Line dancing, which will include teachers for those who would like to learn, will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Sue Vanatta, president and chief executive of the Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, encourages everyone to be there and take the opportunity to dance on the square.
“We have two ladies who will be teaching some line dances,” Vanatta said. “So if you ever wanted to dance on the square, this is your opportunity.”
In addition to music, dancing and food, many shops on the square will be open and have displays set up outside of their doors. This offers an opportunity to support local businesses as they play host to what Vanatta called "great shopping."
The event is free, and those who come are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the event. Organizations and individuals who donate a set amount will receive VIP tickets, which include premier seating, access to premier parking and a free meal.
Vanatta said the first Jammin’ with the General event was more successful than she hoped, and she expects Thursday will prove to be even more successful. The Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce has already begun planning more events to take place on the square next year as a result of the enthusiasm from its first event.
The final Jammin’ with the General event will be July 18.
