Paramedics airlifted two unidentified people to a nearby hospital following a head-on collision Tuesday night that involved three vehicles on Sparta Pike.

Lebanon police Chief Scott Bowen said the incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. at 1405 Sparta Pike near Eastover Road. He said Wilson Emergency Management Agency responders needed help from firefighters and officers to extricate two people from vehicles.

WEMA Director John Jewell said paramedics landed one helicopter at the Wilson County Fairgrounds to take one victim to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He said a second victim was taken by ambulance to the Lebanon Municipal Airport, where a second helicopter was waiting. A third person involved in the crash was not injured.

Jewell described the injuries as “significant.”
