MARTIN – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving a deputy shooting a suspect.
In the early morning hours Thursday, a male clerk of a convenience store in Palmersville called Weakley County sheriff’s dispatch regarding a male who threatened to kill him. Deputies found the male suspect, but he refused to stop his vehicle.
A vehicle pursuit with the deputies began. The suspect continued and drove through roadblocks and into oncoming traffic. The suspect then drove onto railroad tracks and approached a deputy blocking the next railroad crossing.
The subject did not stop, and the deputy was compelled to open fire on the suspect. Finally, the suspect stopped his vehicle and was taken into custody. The male suspect did sustain injuries and was airlifted to Regional Medical Center in Memphis. His current medical condition is unknown. The shooting incident happened at about 6:36 a.m..
At the request of District Attorney General Thomas A. Thomas, agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation. The identities of the suspect and deputy involved in this incident were not immediately released.
